Hey Y’all. This year has definitely been a whirlwind for me. I’ve been going through a lot of life transitions and it has been hard for me to post consistently (if you can’t tell).

so let’s have a talk about my life & this blog

So far this year I moved cities, traveled a lot, switched careers, gained new friends, lost some old ones, and focused a lot on my wellbeing. I did all of this while trying to post four times, then three times, then two times a week. It all became a little bit too much for me and it was hard for me to stay super consistent especially creatively. I kind of lost my creative spark and I got burned out.

I didn’t realize that I was so burnt out until I was watching a YouTube video about blogging and taking breaks. It made me realize that as a blogger you need to take breaks. In any traditional industry you have vacation days and weekends. But as a blogger it is a 24/7 job and I have blogged full-time, so I know that. I’m my own everything (PR Manager, Social Media Manager, Photographer, Stylist, Editor, Art Director, Writer, Marketing Team, Accountant, etc.). I’m not saying all of this to complain because I truly enjoy blogging! It is my creative outlet and something I don’t want to let go of. I’m saying all of these because sometimes it’s hard for people to understand why it takes so much to create blog content. A lot goes into it and I enjoy every single bit.

on consistency

So the reason it’s been hard for me to be consistent is because I didn’t want to put out content “just because”. Instead I wanted everything I put out to add value to your life. I tried journaling, taking a break from social media, and new approaches to minimalism. Those things helped for a little bit then I realized I was falling back into old habits of spending way too much money on pointless things. Or wasting time on social media instead of being on there because I truly wanted to be.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I needed some intentionality and balance in my life. I’ve been working on it a lot in August and it seems like everything is coming together. I had to stop putting so much pressure on myself and give myself grace. I love to create. But I need to create in a way that makes me happy. Writing and blogging is something that I truly enjoy doing so don’t see this post as me stepping back, or leaving. But I had to take a break to take care of myself. I mean, I discuss taking care of you so much on here. And my short hiatus back in April wasn’t long enough for me. Honestly, it probably should have been six months.

So I’m finally ready to jump back into blogging – CONSISTENTLY! I’ve created a lot of plans and systems and I have so much great content coming. So get ready for new posts every single Monday and Friday at 7am EDT for the rest of 2017! I’m also bringing back my newsletter: Felicia’s Flyer, which will be sent out the last friday of every month. In my newsletter, you can expect minimalist tips, inspiration, and updates. It’s also my way of getting to know you on a more personal basis.

  • Minimal Mondays // this series will be published on the first Monday of every month. The purpose of this series is to give you a minimalistic, actionable tips that will help you live a life that’s true to you.
  • Life In Lou // In this series, I’ll be discussing the best places to go around Louisville, my wonderful hometown. You’ll see posts on places to grab a quick bite, museums to visit, and what’s going on in the city!

Lastly, I’m creating a shop page so you can see all of the items that I love to keep in my home. At first, I was conflicted with creating a shop page because I’m a minimalist. However, being a minimalist doesn’t mean that I don’t buy things. So, this page is a way for you to see what I’m currently loving at all times. There will be natural beauty products I love, products that I’m using now that I’m switching to a zero waste lifestyle, and so much more.

Sometimes change is really good and necessary. So you’ll be seeing a lot of that coming to the blog this month and for the rest of the year. I hope your excited about it as much as I am!

  • Oh, I can totally relate! I have been burnt up (or is it out?) for the better part of july and the entire august. Now that everything seems to be returning to normal, I’m trying to get things back on track. Yay for me-time and self-care! Looking forward to reading your new series!

    I’m so excited for your two new series! I’m with you on the pressure to spend money just because, but lately I’ve been blogging more for “me” which sounds incredibly selfish-but it took the pressure off to buy things just to show or talk about them on the blog and now I’m so much more happy. I think that translates to my readers too, which is a positive!

  • Great job taking a break when you knew you needed to! That can be hard to do, but we all have periods of time where we need to take a step back and breathe. It sounds like you’ve had a lot going on in your life recently, too!

    • Yeah, I’ve had so much going on and I knew that something would fall to the wayside along with my self-care. But I’ve worked on that and this blog, so I’m excited!

    Kudos to you for realizing when you needed to take a break and rejuvenate yourself! I’ve also burned myself out blogging before, and I felt guilty the whole time during my break. But I have realized that if I don’t get a post up every week, it’s not the end of the world. I took the pressure off of myself, and things feel so much better now! It’s all about life balance, and it looks like you’ve got it now! I’m excited about all of these new changes coming up! 🙂

    I couldn’t agree more! Sometimes we have to take a step back and take a break in order to be able to give more in the future. We all need that from time-to-time!
