I’m back after taking a much needed break from the online world. I’ve been blogging for a little over a year now and the reality of blogging has been completely different than I ever imagined.
I have overextended myself by doing way too much. Working a full-time job with about 60+ hours a week, blogging on the weekends, and trying to have a social life. It was hard to balance it all and I hit my breaking point. As you can probably tell I haven’t been very active on social media with the exception of Pinterest. I wanted to start 2017 on the right foot and hit the ground running with blogging. However, after a few things occurred I realized that I needed to take a step back in 2017.
why i took a blogging break:
I needed to get back to basics of why I blog. I redid my about me page to detail why I started this blog in the first place. You can read about that here.
While I did enjoy posting consistently twice a week in January, it took such a toll on me. I was very overworked, overwhelmed, and unhappy – so I knew that something had to give. So, I decided to take a step back to reevaluate everything and find some clarity and direction with this blog.
where have i been?
I needed to refocus and recenter my life while working on prioritizing things that are the most important to me right now. I’ve decided to change a few things for good on this blog instead of switching back and forth and being very inconsistent. As you can tell, my site is different! I’ve been working on this rebrand since my blog anniversary this past February and I’m finally done. It’s been a long journey, but an exciting one. I’m glad I was about to put it all together in time for me to take my blog to the next level.
I want this blog to be my creative outlet where I can write and post about things that are interesting to me, but are also helpful to you. I’ve taken a lot of time to think and find clarity with the direction of this blog. I want to it be a creative outlet for me and to stop looking at it as a business.
I’ve taken a blogging hiatus to get my creative flow back and make some tough life decisions, too. One big thing that I’ve realized on this time off is that perfectionism can hinder you progress. I’m human, I make mistakes, like every other person. However, I’ve realized that I’m the type of perfectionist that can get blinded by comparison. And comparing yourself to other bloggers can definitely send you into a downward spiral.
so, sometimes you need to take a break
Instead of rushing through life and wasting time. I needed to actually take the time and give my site the attention it deserves. I enjoy blogging and this small community that I am beginning to build and I hope you all enjoy it too.
I’ve decided to get rid of things that I don’t enjoy and no longer serve me – such as particular social media outlets. When it comes to Facebook and Twitter, I’m not sure how I want to approach them. So, I’ve decided to try different strategies with both outlets to determine if I truly enjoy them. I also want to make sure that I’m not putting too much effort into sites where my community doesn’t reside So, the best way to stay in touch with my blogging updates is through Instagram. Also, I’m always active on Pinterest! Those are two definitive sites that I want to be apart of and where my community resides.
the future for the felicia renee
new posts will be three times a week on
Sundays, Tuesdays,Mondays and Fridays at 7am EDT.
be active on social media – so you know that a new post is up & i love engaging with y’all
but most importantly, enjoy the ride!
I’ve been working really hard on my rebrand behind the scenes and my future plans for this blog! I hope that by being consistent with this site in design and by streamlining my posts that it aligns with my brand. I’ve also decided to no longer put out any content, or work with any brands that do not align with my vision.
I’ve revised and deleted a lot of posts that were just fluff and had no substance to them at all. So, take a look around – the site has changed quite a bit! But, it is now more mobile-friendly, which is super nice!
I can’t wait to see where this blogging journey takes me! I’m pretty excited about it all too.
