Five Ways To Refresh Your Life

I’ve been thinking about writing a post on refreshing your life for a few months now. However, until recently I haven’t been able to get myself to truly think of ways to refresh, or restart my life. I’ll admit that it has been hard for me to focus and complete a few tasks each week when it comes to my life.

So, I’ve decided to buckle down on what I am trying to get myself to complete by being very realistic and strategic. Isn’t this something that you want to do, as well? Now is as good of a time as any to unwind, practice mindfulness, and begin living a life that is fulfilling. Most people focus on having a fresh start once it is the new year. However, any day is just as good a time, as any other to start thinking about ways that you can improve your life.

five ways to refresh your life:

1 | practice mindfulness

Learn to slow down and enjoy life by practicing calmness through being mindful and meditating. I’ve realized by learning to enjoy the simple pleasures in life that I have taken advantage of so many more opportunities and I’ve grown drastically as a person. When you become a calmer person, you begin to focus on what is most important in life and let go of other worries and complexities that don’t matter at all.

Before I started practicing mindfulness and calmness, I would get so stressed out and overwhelmed all of the time. I will admit that I still have days when I am very overwhelmed. But the way I deal with things now are so much better than they used to be. I used to freak out over every little thing and now I’ve learned to pick my battles. Every little thing shouldn’t annoy me, or make me freak out. Life is not that serious. Once you stop stressing and take each day one step at a time. I promise, it will all be okay and everything will work out the way it is supposed too.

2 | get a hobby

One of the main things I have been wanting to do this fall is to start a new hobby, or pick up an old one. I’ve always loved photography, yoga, and reading. But lately I’ve put all three of them on the back burner. I’ve been using stock photography and I’ve been reading articles every few weeks. I’ve realized that I need to put more effort into things that I enjoy in life. Can you think of any  hobbies that you enjoy? Whether it’s been a while since you’ve taken part in it hobby, or it is a hobby that you enjoy every weekend?

I’ve decided to get back to photography beginning with changing a lot of the images on my site – which is also part of the blog changes I’m making. Then, I’m going to begin working yoga back into my schedule since I travel so much for work. It seems like it will be very enjoyable to try new yoga studios in different cities. Lastly, I am going to create a fall reading list. Unlike my summer reading list, this will be a smaller, well curated list of books that I have been dying to read.

3 | go on a vacation

I took a vacation during the end of September and the beginning of October to Florida. My main purpose was to visit one of my childhood friends, but also to relax and refresh my life for fall. I used my vacation time to refresh and reevaluate so much of my life. I wanted to gain as much clarity in as many areas of my life as I could.

Going on a vacation is a great time to relax and refresh since fall is currently here. You could make a few goals for yourself before you go on a vacation and while there you could work on exercising, or writing in a journal every morning. When you’re in a vacation mindset you begin reflecting and working on improving your life. There are so many places that are so pretty to visit during the fall. Many people don’t take advantage of this at all because it isn’t the summer. The summer is when beaches and touristy locations are super busy. So why not go during October, or November when it’s easier to get around and see places that you may not have time to otherwise.

4 | reduce stress

Stress is one of the most dangerous things that consume most of our lives on a daily basis.

The Mayo Clinic states that stress can affect your body, thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Through headaches, muscle tension, fatigue, anxiety, irritability, overeating, social withdrawal, and more.

Let’s be honest, none of this sounds like something that you, nor I would want in our lives. Stress is so common and uncomfortable. One thing I’ve been trying to reduce as much as possible in my life is stress. You can reduce it by meditating, exercising, eating healthy, and journaling. Find a hobby, as I stated above, and practice ways to reduce stress and increase happiness in your life.

One of the best things you can do this fall, if you don’t do anything else is to reduce stress in your life. Once you begin living a healthier, happier lifestyle you will feel so much better.

5 | start living, stop existing

Staying present and learning to enjoy life is a great thing. There have been many times when I’ve been focused on the future and what is going to happen next. Instead of focusing on my surroundings and living in the present. So many of us exist instead of live and enjoy life. I hear so many times that it’s amazing that I have job where I can travel and so many people say ‘I wish, I could do that‘. Why are you wishing? You can do this!

All you have to do is get in your car and drive to the city that’s an hour away from you, yet you’ve never visited it. You could check flights and buy a cheap flight to a city you’ve never heard of. You can Google things to do in a town – no matter how big or small. There is so much in life to take advantage of and I’m over hearing people say that they can’t do something because they can’t “afford” it, or they “don’t have time”.

You have as much time as you believe you have, and you can afford whatever you believe you can afford (as long as it is within you means). If your dream is to visit Paris, then stop eating out so much and save your money. Research the cheapest ways to visit Paris, and visit during the week so it will be easier to explore the city. Also, go during a month that isn’t as popular to go, like April. Many of you may think this is easier say than done, but I disagree.

If you want to refresh your life begin by learning to stop dreaming about all of the things you want to do. Just start by doing them.

Love all of your suggestions! I find that taking a vacation definitely helps me recharge, and breaking up my weeks with little “me time” sessions – watching a TV episode, reading a chapter, doing a hobby – definitely helps me stay sane and less stressed!

Absolutely loved this post. Go on a vacation! Everyone makes it sound easy and it isn’t always BUT I think the best way of approaching it is just going. Just do it. It’s worthwhile and makes life that much more interesting. Great post!

Yes it does, you can always go on a vacation in your own hometown. I love doing that at times and going to new spots I’ve never been to before!

What really resonated with me is “Start Living, Stop existing”. Once I took this approach to life everything has opened up to me. I’m pursuing my dreams and creating my own small business. My depression and anxiety has lifted greatly. This is such a fantastic list 🙂

I loved this post! I will definitely start incorporating some of these things into my life, like practicing mindfulness, getting a new hobby, and start living, stop existing. Especially that last one, my husband and I are stationed in Seoul and we really don’t take advantage of it as we should.

Oh you should! I’ve heard Seoul is an amazing place. I wish I visited when I studied abroad in Beijing for a semester.

Oh wow, Beijing? That’s awesome! But if you ever get the chance, you should try to visit Seoul. It’s definitely pretty cool.

I, too, have been trying to revive a few of my hobbies! In the past year or two, I’ve gotten in the bad habit of resorting to scrolling Instagram or watching Netflix, but I know that developing an old hobby would be so much more enriching!

They truly help, I try to take part in coloring whenever I get a chance. It brings out the kid in me!
