Let me start by saying that I am not a makeup expert. This makeup collection includes products that I have come to love as I have learned to love makeup for what it is. To me, makeup is an accessory that can add something to your overall look. I’m the type of person that wears a lot of black and neutrals. Lately, I’ve been using makeup as my little pop of color.
I’ve had a very long skincare journey from cystic acne to a semi-flawless complexion. It definitely didn’t happen overnight. Also if I discussed it right now this would be an extremely long post, so I’ll save that for another day.
Since I’ve finally cleared up my skin and I’ve come to love makeup. I’ve been trying a lot of products that don’t irritate my sensitive skin, but add something extra to my outfits. That is why I’ve created a simple and minimal makeup collection.
my minimal makeup collection:
My collection includes around ten products that I love and the only item missing is a red lipstick. I’ve tried a lot of them, but for now – there isn’t one that I truly love. So, this simple makeup collection includes products I love and don’t plan on changing for a while.
I use the Hourglass Vanish Foundation in Almond as a concealer for blemishes and acne scars along with their foundation brush. I used to own a concealer, but the top kept breaking. Since I was sent this foundation and brush in a press kit. I tried it out and loved it!
I was given the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Paaarty and a lip gloss for my birthday gift from Sephora. The gloss was way to light for my skin tone, but the blush matched me perfectly.
I love how pigmented the Becca highlighters are, but for right now it’s so hard for me to spend a lot on a highlighter. So, I’m sticking with my trusty e.l.f. highlighter in Baked Gems. It is only $4 and a great gem to accentuate the high points on your face.
I’m not much of a makeup wearer, as you can probably tell by this post. However, I wanted a natural looking eyeshadow with a little bit of shimmer. The Sephora Collection’s eyeshadow in Copper Rush is the best for me, until I can find a small neutral palette I’d like to invest in.
- eyeshadow primer
If I’m going to wear an eyeshadow, I need it to stay on all day. Especially if it is a neutral color, like the one I’ve purchased. I like for my eyeshadows to look very pigmented and natural all day long. The best primer to do the job is the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. A tip is to buy the travel size version because this primer can dry up quickly when used a lot!
I have always worn eyeliner. It has been the main thing I’ve worn even before wearing mascara. Oh boy, my pictures from middle school with thick black eyeliner and skater tees is completely different from how I am now. Besides the point, I love a black eyeliner that slides on smooth and wears for the entire day. I’ve been on the hunt for a great eyeliner and the one I’ve stuck with is the Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Black and I love it!
So, I have extremely short eyelashes. I should probably wear fake lashes if I’d like them to be more noticeable, but the simpler the better for me. However, I’ve been trying out various mascaras for such a long time and I finally found one that makes my short lashes visible. My current fave is Almay’s Get Up & Grow One Coat Extreme Length Mascara and I love it.
- eyebrow pencil
I never used product on my eyebrows until senior year of college. I know I was pretty late to the game at age twenty-two, but at least I decided to try something new. It made me realize that shaping your eyebrows actually frame your face and add to any other makeup product that you use.
I used to use the Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyebrow Pencil in Rich Brown. But it ran out so fast that I felt like I was constantly spending $25 on a product that wasn’t worth it. Until I started using the Revlon Colorstay Brow Pencil in Dark Brown that was a perfect dupe and less than half the price. I love this eyebrow pencil because it gives me a very natural look, but it fills in my eyebrows.
- lip gloss
I have been loving pale pink lately, I even mentioned it in my favorites. So, I have been on the hunt for a pale pink lip gloss that suits my skin tone. I didn’t want a bright lip gloss, but one that looked very natural. The Sephora Collection Colorful Gloss Balm in 06 Warrior Princess was perfect, and the best part is that it is not sticky! Stickiness is what I hate the most about lip glosses and why I usually stick with lip balm. This gloss is very nourishing as well since it contains mango and grapeseed oils.
To counteract such a bright color, I had to go with a darker color. I wanted a plum color that would look great with my natural eyeshadow color. I got the Albeit Lipstick in Dahlia from Anthropologie and it is my absolute favorite. It is very pigmented and long-lasting.
makeup bag & tools
- makeup bag
I bought my makeup bag from Madewell, after purchasing their clear toiletry bag. So, i just thought it would be fitting to have a small makeup bag to match! I love that it is see-through so I can see all of my products at once. Also, it’s just a cute bag instead of getting a black bag, like I’d usually purchase.
- makeup brushes
The only makeup brushes I use are eco-friendly. Even the Hourglass foundation brush is an eco-friendly product! Overall, Ecotools brushes are my absolute favorite. They are soft, easy to clean, and pick up the perfect amount of product. I have a sample of the kind I have below, but I bought each brush individually.
- eyelash curler
Eyelash curlers are important to me because my eyelashes are short, and if I don’t curl them they stick straight out. Also having a curler that is gentle on my eyes is a must too. The Sally Hansen Sexy Curls Precision Eyelash Curler as been the perfect one for me after hurting my eyes too much with an eyelash curler from the Dollar Tree.
